日本公共浴場(Japanese Public Bath Houses)

I have been to 3 Public Bath Houses....

1.Size:Some are like a classroom, some are like a swimming poolit depends!

2. Female Public Bath House

Step1: Put your belongings in locker/shelf without locking it

Step2:Take off all your clothes

Step3:Sit on the small seat, wash your body, and shower (most of them provide shower gel, shampoo, and hair conditioner)

Step4: Go into the hot spring (which is around 70 degrees, though some have cold baths also)

 3.My Feelings

Well, there is no public bath house in HK. We would never show our bodies to each others, even in the changing room of a swimming pool; we would provide private rooms for changing and showering.

At first, I just couldn't get used to the public bath house because I'm so shy. I brought a swimming suit with me, but I was lucky because at the first bath house, there was just one another lady who washed quickly and left, so I was alone almost the entire time I was there. So I didn't wear any clothes and just washed myself. I felt happy because I love bathing, and never have such a big bath house. The hot spring was too hot for me, so I only stayed in for three minutes. My skin became very dry after I got out.Actually, every time I went a public bath house after that, I only stayed in for three minutes.

The second bath house I visited was not big. It was about the size of a classroom. This time, there were around 10 ladies, from 10 months old to 80 years old. I felt shy at first, and covered myself with hands, but it seems that everyone was so comfortable and natural; they wouldn't stare at others and respected each other's privacy. Young girls were very confident: they laughed, walked around without shame, and even showed off their bodies. The old ladies were friendly. Maybe it was just who looked around to see their bodies, but I found it intriguing to see how everyone's bodies were are different stages of life.I learned that even though the women had differently shaped bodies and I didn't see a perfect one, they all have their own beauty.

The third bath house I went to was the biggest, like a swimming pool ( it could have been smaller, I just felt that it was big). Not many people were in it—only about five. But I didn't go into the hot spring. No matter how big or small, the settings were almost the same, except bigger ones will provide more showers, and small ones may have none. And it was my first time to see a woman put a towel to cover her lower parts. It was quite strange...So I got used to the traditional way...haha...

4. Security

Public bath houses are really safe. I left my belongings without locking them and nothing went missing. Japanese people trusts each others, have good manners in public, and respect others. Those virtues are impressive! In our society, you could never keep your belongings out of your sight...How is it that the Japanese learned so much from the Chinese but came to be better than them?
